Hot Off The Press!

New Historical City of Culture Leaflets
One of the perks of  being a City of Culture volunteer is that you get to work on the Tourist Information Point at the Interchange, meeting and greeting visitors and advising them on what to do in the city. Also we get to see the new leaflets that come in, and some of them are a fantastic way for historians to explore the city for free!

Here are two new leaflets that I think are worth a place in your collection, though I haven't had the chance to do them yet!

'The Hull Tile Trail', published for the City of  Culture by the Tiles and Architectural Society, it covers mainly the city centre, with a fold out map at the front. Included are the former BHS mural, whose future at the time of writing is still uncertain; the Punch Hotel, which is situated in between Princes Quay Shopping Centre and Ferens Art Gallery, and even the Roman mosaics in the East Riding Museum. It ventures out from the city centre by looking at Beverley Road Baths and Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham, just to name a few. Of course, there are plenty more that are not mentioned such as the tiles in East Hull Swimming Baths reception, which are going to be turned into flats once the extension and re-fit are completed at Woodford Leisure Centre in 2018, so go have a look while you can!

Sadly this fold out leaflet has nothing to do with the City of Culture, but published privately by Charlotte Tomilson, a historian of WWII in Britain and funded by the Leeds for Life Foundation. This trail concentrates on Hull city centre, with a small map to guide you around. Each point has a paragraph of  history during the conflict, accompanied by a photograph from the era. On the back it does give you a approximate guide to the distance and how long it will take you to complete the walk.

Please note that these leaflets have been very popular and that they are limited in number, so you will have ask for them.

For those that live outside Hull and are interested in these leaflets, I recommend that you contact the Hull Visitor Information Point and they can advise you further.
